Richard L Lewis & Wilbert Gilliam - Long Freight Train Blues (Field Recordings vol. 6: Texas 1933-1958)
Back in ancient times, when jaded hipsters wanted to listen to something authentic, and unsullied by commercialism and corporate meddling, they had no tumblrs, no hype machines, no subpops. No sir, the only ‘indie rock’ around was in jailhouses, where men found guilty of murders, robbings and glancing at a white lady’s ankles served out their life sentences, and sang the blues. Luckily for us, some ancient hipsters took tape recorders to these prisons, so that they could post the songs on their ancient blogs (they were called ‘livejournals’ then).
