I like this, and they are wise words, but I know that every time I try to set out my own ideals I am destined to fail to meet them. But that’s not the point is it? They’re ideals, things to aim for. Achievement is always partial and compromised and sometimes pleasantly surprising.

I agree. Art is art - photography is a creative act. What works is what matters; the photograph not the technology.
Same goes for camera freaks, polaroid geeks and the like. If the end result isn’t interesting, the process that got you there really doesn’t matter much to anyone other than you.
